Twilight 12, Admin Yellow 8: quiet
Author: Kat
Title: quiet
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Twilight 12 (Firedog), admin yellow 8 (There's no such thing as a risk-free life.)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Lilith Fair Second Stage: Quiet Times, Dido), fingerpainting (sestina), acrylic (Though nothing, nothing will keep us together/We can beat them, forever and ever/Oh, we can be heroes just for one day)
Word Count: 320
Rating: PG
Summary: Aaron and Simon, breaking up.
Warnings: none.
Notes: Last twilight! Also, my rage against sestinas continues unabated.
Without your voice, the room is far too quiet.
Without your touch, I feel too keenly loss.
Without your smile, the sky has lost its sun.
Without your love, I have misplaced my heart.
A breakup hurts; that's wisdom from the edge,
A lesson learned in pain. And at the close
Of our relationship, I held you close.
We sat together in our room, were quiet;
We knew we trembled, frightened, on the edge
Of what might be our joint and greatest loss.
We hesitated still to break our hearts,
And in the sky, stood still a doubled sun.
A light as bright as morning dogged the sun,
Like lovers, marriage partners, it came close
As though the fiery sun enclosed its heart
And in return for hope, gave only quiet.
I knew that light would receive only loss,
But maybe it was worth it. On the edge
Of understanding, on the edge,
I watched the progress of the doubled sun,
And though it loomed ahead of us, the loss,
When looking back, I rejoiced in how close
We were. We used to sit in quiet,
you and I; we used to be one heart.
If we must part, if we must split that heart,
So be it. We have embraced the edge
Of joy, and tasted neverending quiet
The kind that comes from kinship of the heart.
Standing at the end, our memories close,
We have that comfort to offset the loss.
We'll go our separate ways, and live the loss
And weather what it does to our two hearts.
And someday soon we'll learn how to be close
To someone loved, without fearing the edge.
That brightest light will again chase the sun,
But we won't see it. We will feel the quiet.
Our painful loss will redefine the edge
our broken hearts can toe before the sun
Comes to a close and all we know is quiet.

This is nicely painful-hopeful. I guess writing something painful on a painful topic is quite appropriate.
