Barbados Blue #9

Name: Greenling
Story: All Great Things
Colors: Barbados Blue #9 (Tropical storm)
Supplies and Styles: Graffiti (Skindiving), Oils ("two moons")
Word Count: 521

Summary: Peace and Kevin notice some odd things off in the dream world, and come in before it starts raining. (Chronologically, this happens after Lance leaves, but before Dmitry wakes up. Damn perspective-switching.)

Comments, criticism, and questions are all appreciated.

In the dreamspace, the sea was a wall of roiling, colorless steam that reached up to the sky. As the hours passed and the sunset neared, tiny strings of meaning rose up from the cemetaries and the mausoleums and a hundred other death-filled spaces and joined the wall.

Neither of them knew quite what it meant, or what to do about it, except that things were getting bad.

Kevin taught Peace all he could: about warding, tracking, enchantment, how to look freely between worlds, and how to walk between them even where reality was much stronger. He taught him how to tell sorcerous magic from other kinds, at least most of the time, and ways to recognize the passage of some of the more common types of demons and other nasty creatures. He tried to teach Peace some of his personal tricks, snake tricks of thought and memory and illusion, but they mostly didn't take. (Peace worried if any of it had.)

About two hours passed there, until you could slice the tension with a knife. Kevin stopped even replying in words when he didn't need to, and Peace started understanding without them.

Time collapsed itself back into a linear stream when Peace felt something poking him in the forehead.

He rubbed his head, but the poking continued; something was poking his physical body.

"Uhm... just a sec," he said to Kevin, who was looking at him strangely. Peace gathered his thoughts and concentrated on looking over.

Someone was squatting next to him, a guy with spiky hair; he smelled sharp, hot, and and slightly of blood and... other things. It was like a mouthful of four-alarm chili served by someone who maybe needed to take a shower.

"There's someone here," he said to Kevin- talking with both mouths, he realized- before pulling himself back out into the waking world.

The waking world felt disappointingly heavy after all that free-flying, and he made a face as he pulled himself to his feet.

"Hi! I'm Bird," the guy said quickly, some nervousness evident behind his grin. "Ah, sorry if you were in the middle of something, never met a werewolf before, Diana said she wanted to talk to you and said I, I needed to, so uh, hi!"

The tension broke in a single massive wave, and Peace couldn't help but start chuckling. "Hi! Do you think I'm going to eat you?"

"I was really hoping not? Your friend there, uh... he made some comments that... I was really hoping were jokes?"

Bird stood up just in time to see Kevin open his eyes. Bird took a step back; Kevin graced him with a slow, broad, creepy grin.

"Uh... h-hi?"

The grin collapsed, and so did Kevin, into a pile of quiet laughter. Bird stood there awkwardly.

Peace shrugged, smiling. "I don't know what's going on, but I'm not going to eat you, at least. Can you show me where she is?"

"Sure," Bird replied. He left, and Peace and Kevin both followed. As they went in, both werewolves' eyes went to the skies, and the building gray rainclouds on the horizon.

Aw, it sucks being woken up from a good dream. Though I don't know if Peace would call that a good dream. A useful one, maybe?

DON'T MIND ME I DON'T BITE.

Or... does he?

Anyway, I'm happy to hang around here and find out, thanks to the dialogue here (which also make me smirk quite a bit I must say).
