Transparent 23, Bittersweet 1, Old Lace 3: home sweet home
Author: Kat
Title: home sweet home
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Transparent 23 (Atmosphere), bittersweet 1 (growing apart), old lace 3 (There are certain places imbued and saturated with good or evil influences which can make their power felt.) with sara's paint-by-numbers (This place always makes Danny feel on edge.).
Supplies and Materials: Miniature, canvas (Danny is about twenty), chalk (this picture), novelty beads (crawl inside a bottle)
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Danny on her hometown.
Warnings: brief reference to recreational drug use.
Notes: none.
"There's no safe place for me, is there?"
Danny almost wasn't aware that she'd spoken. It seemed to articulate on its own, a conviction made audible. Riker glanced at her, but didn't respond.
What could he say? It was obvious. School was oppressive, a place to act out and fuck up and fail at everything she tried. Home—forget home, she didn't have a home. She hadn't been to juvie but she knew how it would feel: cold, dark, empty. Like everywhere else.
"This fucking town," he said, at last, passed her a joint.
She nodded, and took a drag.

He may be a butt with no aspirations, but he's not heartless. It's like- he knows how rotten things are too and it hurts him too and he tried to reach out, but maybe... maybe he doesn't quite make it.
I imagine him putting his head on Danny's shoulder after and watching the straggle of traffic down the nearest road.

Thank you. <3
