They tried to tell her that she's not doing enough, that she's not living up to her potential, that she should be doing more.

But Anya says fuck that.

She tries anyway. She tries to build up a shell, a hard exterior that no one can penetrate, not her parents or anyone else who wants to cast a judging eye on her. She made her choices, did what she could with the resources life gave her and what she could scrape together herself. It's not a perfect existence but to hell with anyone who says it's not good enough.

But there are times when she can't get the voices to shut up. Her mother whispers in her ear, tells her she's a failure and a waste. Her father doesn't say anything, she just hears his soft moaning in her ear and it makes her sick.

It's on days lie that when she hides herself away in the back of her delivery van. She blasts music into her brain until her ears ring when she takes off the headphones and she wears a constant glare, daring anyone to try and screw with her today.

She's a hard woman who gets harder when the demons rise. She bares her teeth and shows off her claws and maybe she gets into fights with the people who really matter to her, maybe she antagonizes people who don't deserve it, but it's only to show that she's strong. She does it to prove she can do whatever the fuck she wants and no one, not the echoes of her parents, ot any jackasses on the street or anyone else is going to make her crack.
