Sulphur 5, Faded Blue 15: Tired

Author: Kat
Title: Tired
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Sulphur 5 (Hooves), faded blue 15 (I couldn't sleep a wink last night / Because we had that silly fight).
Supplies and Materials: Tapestry, charcoal (Irene Jackson), canvas, seed beads, stain (It is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely uneducated. - Alec Bourne), modeling clay (nothing), glitter (damage), photography, miniature.
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG.
Summary: Irene is so, so tired of this.
Warnings: none.
Notes: And tapestry complete! Before you ask, Irene is definitely a villain. Warning for overt racism at that link.

Irene is grooming a horse, and so, so tired of this. Of her brother treating her like the devil because she dared tell the truth, of his wife lifting her nose, of those brats hanging up on her every time she calls. Lawrence is a bully, nothing more to be said, and she's better off pretending they don't even exist.

It hurts, though-- she rubs her face against the horse's side for a moment, inhaling that comforting animal smell. It hurts that Lawrence cares so little.

She won't think about it, she decides, and bends to pick up a hoof.

Baww more, Irene. I am playing the world's tiniest violin just for you. She'll never feel an ounce of shame for the pain she's caused her family. I particularly liked her calling Lawrence a bully for standing up for his family, because don't you know that not tolerating her intolerance is just as bad as perpetrating intolerance - no, worse!

Congrats on finishing the tapestry. It must have been hard to get so many charcoal pieces down. You've done a really good job with it, like showcasing how Irene just doesn't get it here.

Oh, call the waaaaaaahmbulance, Irene. I had no idea that reacting terribly when someone calls your son the N-word was bullying, but gosh, I sure did learn something! (/sarcasm).

She's right, though, on one thing--pretending they don't exist will probably be doing them a favor in the long run.

Maybe if you weren't such a vile racist, Irene, Lawrence would like you better. She just seriously doesn't get it.

Nice job with her thinking of it as "bullying." Co-opting that concept to make herself out to be the victim. It's a common tactic with people like her.

My impression of this story is that Irene cares more for the horse than for black children.

And while it's sweet she loves the horse... uh... can /I/ get a scrubbing over here mebbe?

You've really outdone yourself with this tapestry. It feels like a real, tangible tapestry. Full of broken glass, but still.
