I really want to expand on this description at some point, but miniatures are just too fun to make
Zatea stared at her hand. Curling her fingers in and out, she marveled at her newfound ability to control the movement of each digit with perfect accuracy. She carefully took note of every sensation. Motors rotated; they didn’t pull. Z saw, but couldn’t feel, her metallic exoskeleton. Nothing was warm, but neither was anything cold; movement was more readily accessible than temperature. Light and sound became the same sensation; not in a way that made sound visible or light audible, but in a way that translated noise and image into something Z could never have explained to her former body.

Thank you so much!!
also since you asked,,, (I get excited about explaining these things)
[Spoilers ahead]
This takes place inside the Maelstrom. The most concise way I can describe the Maelstrom is a physical manifestation of the collective unconscious, though there's a little more to it. But once you're inside you tend to transform into (usually a metaphorical version of) what you see yourself as. For some this is distressing, but for others who don't have too much of a problem with self-image, like Z, it's sort of liberating.
