"I'm not sure how practical this is going to be," Alex said through a smirk.
"It doesn't have to be practical. It's just supposed to be pretty and keep 'til we go to the festival."
Aimi looked adorably pleased with herself, from what Alex could see in the wall mirror. She had wheedled her mother into letting her dress up early, and she'd spent all afternoon very delicately flouncing around in a red silk kimono that was slightly too small. Most of the family had gone out shopping and Alex was left behind to watch his niece and nephews, and for that matter his mother, who was still sicker than she wanted to admit. The eldest was busy doing something on his tablet and Ryouta was napping, but Aimi was far too excited. She was ten already, at the age where she wanted to pretend she was a grown-up, but she wasn't very good at it yet.
She sat up on her knees and looked at him over his shoulder; he surpressed a wince as she tugged a bit at his hair by accident. "Are you okay with flowers? I know a lot of boys don't like them."
"Depends on the flowers?" Where did she get flowers?
"They're violets, from outside. You like purple, right?"
Alex smirked again. His brother would probably insist on taking pictures of him with little flowers sticking out of his locs. It would be worth it. "I suppose that's fine."
Aimi got back to it, grinning from ear to ear.
