It's frustrating--exhausting--but every morning, Kit dons a mask. He pretends to give a damn about these people and their petty problems--because while he does, he holds the power of life and death over an entire nation. When he reminds himself, it feels worthwhile. For a moment, at least.

Then someone says or does something to make him want to rip their throat out, and he just...

He finds an excuse to remove the mask--perhaps not with them, but with someone.

And then he goes home, cleans the blood from his hands, and replaces his mask to start the next day.
