How could he be gone? Mel was his, dammit, he couldn’t just disappear like that.
But no one had seen him since he’d left the ship for his last few hours of shore leave. Two days of tearing the town inside out had turned up exactly nothing. No trail, no explanation, not even a body.
Kit finally gave the order to break off the search—they had to make a living, and, impossible though it was, Mel was beyond finding now.
He only wished he could have razed the entire town for being the place where his brother had disappeared.
